Slow play is one of the main causes of frustration for players and we need all members to work with us to improve this aspect of the game.

Killara Golf Club has implemented MiClub’s Pace of Play module to assist in managing pace of play at our club. In conjunction with this new tool, the club is developing a pace of play policy which will detail expectations, processes and sanctions.

The new pace of play management software allows our golf operations team to view and track players and group’s location whilst on course.

  • Locating players on the course in real-time
  • Identify slow play issues as they arise
  • Send push notifications during play via MiScore App
  • Targeted marshalling
  • Calculating expected finish times
  • Using data to provide in depth reports

An example of the real-time dashboard is available below;

The Golf Operations team will be notified of groups that fall behind. Action at this time can be taken via push notification on the MiScore App or marshalling.

There can be a number of factors which determine round times such as weather, green speed, competition format and field size. The Match Committee has established expectations for round times during competition play as outlined below:

Format

Accepted Round Time

Accepted Maximum Gap to the Group In-front

Stableford

4 Hrs 20 Mins

8 Mins

Par

4 Hrs 20 Mins

8 Mins

Stroke

4 Hrs 30 Mins

8 Mins

The total round time for a group/player is calculated in reference to their Tee Time and the first score submitted for all players in the group. The gap time has been determined as the acceptable time gap between groups. The MiScore App location tracking functionality is set to only track a person’s location whilst using the App and within the boundary of the course.

Slow Time – A group will be deemed to have registered a Slow Time if;

  •  Complete 18-holes in a time greater than the ‘Accepted Round Time’, AND;
  • Complete 18-holes with a gap to the group in-front greater than 8-minutes

Importantly:

  • Any group completing 18-holes in less than the accepted round time will not be deemed to have recorded a ‘Slow Time’.
  • Any group completing 18-holes with a gap to the group in-front of less than 8-minutes will not be deemed to have recorded a ‘Slow Time’.
  • Therefore, to record a ‘Slow Time’ a group must have exceeded the acceptable round time and fallen more than 8-minutes behind the group in-front.

Sanction Policy – The Match Committee will review the data and Slow Time records from the pace of play module over the coming month and will communicate directly with groups who record a Slow Time.

The sanction policy for repeated Slow Times will be established as the data is reviewed and golfer behaviour regarding pace of play is assessed.

Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our Golf Operations team.

Thank you for your co-operation and understanding. These measures have been put in place to help improve the overall enjoyment of golf for everyone at KGC.
