KGC Board Update

Here follows a summary of the main matters that the Board discussed at the 3rd October 2024 meeting: 

In the absence of Steve Healy Karen Wood was appointed to chair the meeting.

Attendees:

  • Present: Karen Wood, Jo Setright, Tony Percival, Patricia Biszewski, Doug Bain, Terry Little, Mike Wilkins, Alan Downie.
  • In Attendance: Josh Madden (General Manager), Josh Whitehouse (Operations Manager).
  • Apologies: Stephen Healy.
Key Discussions and Decisions:
  • Dam Safety: The Honeysuckle Creek Dam report was reviewed with no issues. The dam needs dredging as its capacity has reduced, and a quote is to be investigated. 
  • Membership Updates: Will Hammond was offered a Junior Development Scholarship, along with Chloe Sun, Miles Ward, and Xavier Dent.
  • CEO Report Highlights:
    • New Superintendent Mark Ward starts on 14th October.
    • Recruitment challenges in staffing for Food & Beverage and Golf Course were noted.
    • Review of member categories and intake numbers is underway, with potential changes in the waitlist process.
  • GBAS Survey: The Board is waiting for further steps and benchmarking results from GBAS, comparing KGC to other North Shore clubs.
  • Clubhouse Redevelopment: Concerns were raised about timing, member feedback, and pending updates on government housing reforms. A presentation for members may be delayed.
  • Grounds Committee: Concerns over the water license, dam capacity, and the need for dredging were discussed. A bridge on the 8th hole is under review.
  • Finance Committee: Cash flow, term deposits, and the 2025 budget were discussed. Payroll inefficiencies and the need for better HR processes were highlighted.
  • Other Committees:
    • Match: Policy on team selection and disciplinary issues were reviewed, with a special meeting planned.
    • Women’s Committee: They thanked the organizers for Founders Day and noted that the KGC podcast was completed.
  • Action Items: Various ongoing tasks were assigned to management, including water license follow-ups, reviewing contractors, and presenting playing category recommendations.
